Thesis

Vulnerability of assessment of fixed offshore oil and gas platforms subject to accidental explosion and fires

Summary

The thesis mainly focuses on vapor cloud explosions(VCEs)/ gas explosions, it includes the numerical simulations of explosion over-pressures, the safety distance assessment and the optimization of onshore/offshore structures subjected to VCEs.

Why my research is important

A new correlation of gas over-pressure calculation is derived in this study, it is a faster tool than numerical simulation to predict the over-pressures generated by VCEs and it is more accurate than the conventional and experimentally based approach. The safety distance assessment is conducted to make it as a new blast load mitigating approach to the shore/offshore facilities.
